Advanced Conducting Skills for the Theater

Description

This is a hands-on, lab-style course, focused on skills particular and unique to theater conducting. Students will learn how to direct class repertoire from Gypsy to Wicked to demonstrate a variety of techniques including changes of feel, navigating groove and rubato dance music, and conducting choral moments. In addition, each student will prepare, analyze, arrange, and conduct a song of their own choosing for a final project. In class, students will sing, play, and read dialogue for each other in order to simulate specific, relevant theater conducting situations.
