August 10, 2021

On August 10, Berklee announced the launch of the first undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree program in the college’s 75-year history. Offered through the Music Business/Management Department, the Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Leadership and Innovation program will start in the fall of 2022.

Berklee’s new Bachelor of Arts degree program has been specifically designed for non-musicians who have an interest in business and technology. The expertly crafted music industry leadership and innovation curriculum will combine theoretical and practical learning, providing students with the knowledge and experience necessary to thrive in the job market, as well as to adapt and evolve as professionals in an ever-changing industry.

“Berklee was born out of the spirit of innovation,” said Tonya Butler, chair of the Music Business/Management Department. “The Bachelor of Arts in music industry leadership and innovation does not require an audition, yet is still a highly selective and competitive program designed for students with a strong desire to impact, change, and even disrupt the music industry of today, while making a meaningful contribution to the industry of tomorrow. I look forward to welcoming the first class of students to study music industry innovation in the place where music of all styles and genres resides.”

Students enrolled in the music industry leadership and innovation specialty will take a selection of business, liberal arts, and general elective courses to complete their degrees. The B.A. program includes specializations in marketing and production development, licensing and administration, and emerging technologies, as well as other relevant coursework rooted in the contemporary music industry, and will be taught by world-class faculty active in both the music and technology fields.
