The Berklee Jazz Composers’ Workshop Orchestra will perform original works and arrangements featuring guest artist Ingrid Jensen.

Born in Vancouver and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Jensen is celebrated as a highly gifted trumpeter. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1989, she recorded three acclaimed CDs for ENJA, becoming a sought-after trumpeter globally. After teaching in Europe, she settled in New York City in the mid-1990s, performing in the jazz orchestras led by Maria Schneider (1994-2012) and Darcy James Argue (2002-present). Jensen has collaborated with Grammy-winning Terri-Lyne Carrington, Helen Sung, and the highly acclaimed all-star ensemble Artemis.

She's a featured soloist on the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra’s Juno-award-winning albums Treelines (2011) and Habitat (2013). She has performed with a multi-generational cast of jazz legends ranging from Clark Terry to Esperanza Spalding B.M. '05; Jensen has also performed alongside British R&B artist Corrine Bailey Rae on Saturday Night Live, and recorded with Canadian pop icon Sarah McLachlan. Leading her own bands, Jensen has earned a global fan base.

As an educator, Jensen taught at the University of Michigan, Peabody Conservatory, and serves as the Dean of Jazz Arts at Manhattan School of Music. A Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition winner in 1995, she's judged the competition twice. Invited to trumpet festivals globally, she was the artist-in-residence at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Her sister, saxophonist Christine Jensen, is a frequent collaborator. Their release, Infinitude, received praise. Jensen’s latest recording, Invisible Sounds, honoring Kenny Wheeler, gained critical acclaim and was featured on NPR’s Jazz Night In America. She received the Jazz Journalists Trumpeter-of-the-Year award in 2019.

Jensen plays a custom Monette trumpet crafted by Dave Monette.
