The annual Symposium for Interconnected Arts and Music Performance, presented by the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) and curated by BGJI Professor Patricia Zarate Perez, creates a space to explore the multidimensionality of music and the connections between creativity, improvisation, science, spirituality, and the broader human experience.

Wife of jazz legend Wayne Shorter, a prominent Brazilian dancer, actress, and singer dedicated to humanitarian work through the arts.
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. | Exploring Cultural Flows through Haitian and African American Improvised Music with Melvin Butler
Butler is associate professor of musicology at Frost School of Music and associate dean of the Office of Academic Enhancement for Undergraduate Affairs, University of Miami.
2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. | Performing Creativity and the Quest for Wisdom
Led by David Carrasco, professor of the Study of Latin America, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University.
3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. | Sights and Sounds of the North American Indigenous Flute
With Native American musician Darren Thompson.
