Matt Glaser

Before becoming artistic director of the American Roots Music Program, Matt Glaser chaired Berklee’s String Department for 28 years. Glaser is the first non-classical string teacher to win the American String Teachers Association Artist Teacher Award. He is also the first and only recipient of the Stéphane Grappelli Memorial Award, which recognized his contribution to teaching improvised string music.

Glaser has performed widely in a variety of idioms ranging from jazz to bluegrass to early music, and he has written several books on string instruments. Glaser advised on and appeared in the Ken Burns documentary Jazz and he has performed at the White House and at Carnegie Hall with Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor.
