The Grammy-winning vocalist and alumna will appear with students at Cafe 939 as part of The Checkout—Live at Berklee on March 6.

Grammy-winning jazz drummer and composer Terri Lyne Carrington '83 has taught with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute since it began. Having been a professor at Berklee since 2007 and known [BGJI artistic director] Danilo Pérez for years, Carrington was glad to join the BGJI because, as she says, “I knew that anything he was involved with would be something that I would feel good about, on a creative level and how we look at the issues.”

A Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) artist in residence, saxophonist George Garzone is a member of the Fringe, a jazz trio founded in 1972 that includes bassist John Lockwood and drummer Bob Gullotti, and a member of the Grammy-winning Joe Lovano Nonet.

Renowned bassist John Patitucci, one of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute faculty, said of the institute: “It’s the most fun I’ve ever had teaching in my life.”

The first recipient of the Gary Burton Chair in Jazz Performance, renowned saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano has been teaching at Berklee since 2001. When the Berklee Global Jazz Institute began, he was thrilled to join the faculty and work with the same group of people consistently. 

The Global Association for Interconnective Arts (GAIA) will explore, define, and implement new ways of educating music students.
