Judy Soberanes is an internationally acclaimed percussionist whose musical journey has taken her across various cities, including Montreal, Toronto, Mexico City, Chiapas, Cancun, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Durango, Chicago, and New York. Her remarkable talent caught the attention of Victor Mendoza, a distinguished faculty member at Berklee College of Music, who witnessed her exceptional skills during her teenage years and invited her to perform at the prestigious Teatro de la Ciudad Emilio Rabasa.
In 2008, Soberanes embarked on a transformative journey to Berklee College of Music, where she honed her skills in hand percussion under the guidance of renowned mentors, such as Eguie Castrillo, Ernesto Diaz, Mikael Ringquist, Ricardo Monzon, and Bernardo Hernandez. Today, Soberanes serves as an assistant professor at Berklee in the ear training department, showcasing her expertise in percussion while also assuming the role of social media coordinator for SheGrooves Collective. Her contributions extend beyond academia, as she collaborates with iconic artists, such as Kenny Garrett, Donald Harrison, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Darren Barrett, Richard Gruzinski, Don Was, Arturo Sandoval, Mark Shilansky, and Kina Zoré.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Soberanes has a passion for photography and videography, catering to esteemed clients like Lancôme, Schilke Music, db Studios, and Berklee College of Music. Her deep-rooted connection to her Mexican heritage and upbringing instilled in her a profound appreciation for nature, and she often finds solace and inspiration in the great outdoors. Soberanes embodies not only musical excellence, but also a multifaceted artistic spirit enriched by her cultural background and reverence for the natural world.
