Ashley Addington is a Boston-based flutist and educator whose work spans contemporary performance, orchestral playing, chamber collaboration, and interdisciplinary projects. Known for her versatility and dynamic artistry, she performs regularly with several of New England’s leading ensembles, including the Grammy-winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sound Icon. Her recent engagements include appearances with the Albany Symphony, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Odyssey Opera, A Far Cry, Emmanuel Music, Cantata Singers, Radius Ensemble, and Chordage Ensemble.
Ashley is deeply committed to the creation and performance of new music. She has premiered and recorded dozens of contemporary works as both a soloist and ensemble member, and her playing appears on Naxos, Ravello Records, and BMOP sound labels. Her work frequently involves collaborations with living composers and the exploration of new techniques, aesthetics, and performance practices.
Equally committed to education, she serves on the faculties of Tufts University, the University of Massachusetts Boston, and Concord Academy. She has also been a guest clinician and masterclass teacher for the New Hampshire Band Directors Association, the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition, and Floot Fire Boston. Ashley studied with Robert Willoughby and Marianne Gedigian.
