Born in Athens, Greece, bassist, arranger, and composer Nikos Chatzitsakos is an award-winning musician as a member of Ralph Peterson’s GenNext Big Band and as leader of his own Tiny Big Band and quartet. Influenced by Black American music of the 1940s–1960s, he honors this era by performing its music and connecting it to other idioms.

Chatzitsakos is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he studied performance and jazz composition on a full-tuition scholarship. He continued his graduate studies at Berklee in the global jazz master’s program. Chatzitsakos has performed with Ralph Peterson, Frank Lacy, Antonio Hart, Quiana Lynell, Sarah Reich, and George Kontrafouris, and at notable venues such as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Lincoln Center, the DC Jazz Festival, Scullers Jazz Club, the Jazzed in Siberia festival, the Berklee Performance Center, and the Onassis Cultural Center.

In 2019, the Nikos Chatzitsakos Tiny Big Band won second place in the Seven Virtual Jazz Club competition. In 2020, he won a DownBeat Student Music Award (in the jazz arrangement category) and received the PanHellenic Scholarship.
