Jiayi Guo is an 18-year-old rising Hong Kong-born pianist, composer, arranger, and band leader currently completing her studies in performance and jazz composition at Berklee College of Music. Guo began deeply rooted in a classically trained childhood, winning consecutive awards in the 2010 Hong Kong International 200th Anniversary of Chopin Youth Piano Competition and in 2016 performing solo at the prestigious Carnegie Hall as a winner in the 13th Annual American Arts Festival. At age of fifteen, Guo switched focus and began to study jazz piano with Berklee Professor Utar Artun. Guo also began to compose symphonies venturing into contemporary classical composition, as well as arranging for jazz big band, pop arrangements, broadway music, and film scoring. In performance Guo has performed with renowned musicians including George Garzone, David Fiuczynski, and Wes Wirth, in addition to piano studies with Ran Blake, Damien Sneed, and Giorgi Mikadze. Guo’s interest and curiosity has led her to become a loyal student of all facets of music from studying traditional and contemporary jazz, world music, and mainstream culture. Guo aspires to be able to bring all of her skills to the table and spread awareness of the vast variety of music that exists, to bring a truly authentic experience, emotion, and something new to the mass audience.
