Jacob Shneiderman Group is a jazz-fusion band made up of Ben Renzoni(Opens in a new window) and Alex Rashad(Opens in a new window) on saxophones, Hidemi Akaiwa(Opens in a new window) on keys, Ransom McCafferty(Opens in a new window) on drums, and Shneiderman(Opens in a new window) on bass. A multi-instrumentalist and composer from Los Angeles, Shneiderman is influenced by fusion groups of the ’70s through the current day, such as Chick Corea and Return to Forever, Weather Report, Donny McCaslin ’88, Kneebody, Hiromi Uehara ’03, and R+R=NOW.
Shneiderman emulates his favorite jazz and fusion artists in his compositions while also implementing more contemporary sounds. Though Shneiderman is the bandleader, compositions by each member of the band are featured, and the musical arrangements are created together by the ensemble. Jacob Shneiderman Group plays a variety of original compositions, reimagined standards, and free improvisations, inviting collaboration and showcasing each musician’s sounds and improvisational styles. The band strives to pay homage to jazz and fusion’s great innovators while also creating a new and diverse sound.
