Gozarsa can lay down a beat that will set your feet on fire. With performances that range from traditional to contemporary Afro-Cuban son (salsa music), the band combines clave-based rhythms, jazz, and a variety of tropical music genres. Gozarsa’s vast repertoire allows them to read the crowd and bring audiences to their feet. The eight-piece conjunto band plays traditional and contemporary musical arrangements, with two trumpets, congas, bongos, bass, piano, Cuban tres guitar, and vocals. They’ve played everywhere from country clubs, restaurants, and benefit concerts to community events and outdoor summer festivals promoting cultural awareness. Rafael Muriel ’91, Gozarsa’s director and trumpeter, has been a professional musician for over 30 years. A Berklee alumnus, he’s worked with countless Latin and jazz artists in Boston and in Puerto Rico.
