In Their Own Words
As a professor, my goal is for students to leave my classroom feeling fully equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the material, enabling them to apply their knowledge to the projects they choose to create or engage with. I often remind them with the quote, "Remember, you are rooted in confidence, greatness is in your veins, and excellence is in your DNA. Therefore, you can, you will, and you must succeed!”

As an artist and singer-songwriter, my professional background significantly influences my teaching approach, particularly in how a deep understanding of music pedagogy can transform artistry. Having performed on prominent platforms like American Idol and being a semifinalist on Gospel Dream, I bring firsthand experience of live performance dynamics, audience engagement, and the nuances of stage presence. Additionally, my understanding of music theory, composition, and pedagogy enriches this experience. It allows me to teach students not only the emotional aspects of performance but also the technical skills necessary to enhance their artistry.

My experience as a touring artist has shown me how diverse musical influences can shape an artist's identity. By combining practical performance insights with theoretical knowledge, I help students develop a holistic understanding of music that informs their creative process. This duality encourages them to draw from their musical foundations while exploring new avenues of expression.

Ultimately, I strive to empower my students to embrace the interplay between artistry and pedagogy. By doing so, they can cultivate a well-rounded musical identity that not only showcases their unique voices/instruments but also equips them with the skills to navigate the complexities of the music industry.
