Artists Leading Social Impact

Course Number
PRMU-115
Description

Artists Leading Social Impact is a one-semester experiential and project-based course that gives students the opportunity to use their artistry to bring music to communities that otherwise do not have access to it. Over the course of a semester, we will focus on one social group within our community—the unhoused population in Boston. Each month, students will design, rehearse and deliver musical experiences in local shelters. In conjunction with performance preparation, the students will discuss case studies of citizen artistry in action today. As a capstone project, students will design a proposal for their own unique performance project that combines artistry with impact, leadership with advocacy, and performance with values. By the end of the semester, students will have created real-world impact within a community and will be able to articulate their own personal mission as it relates to their own unique values as citizen artists.
