Electronic Music Performance

Course Number
MTI-682
Description

This course focuses on the creative practice and technological strategies of live electronic music performance. Students will explore how electronic systems, controllers, and software environments such as Ableton Live can be used to design expressive, dynamic, and personalised performance setups. Topics include real-time sound manipulation, live remixing, hybrid setups combining acoustic and electronic sources, and the aesthetic implications of performing with technology. Emphasis is placed on performance design, gesture and control, and interpretative approaches that bridge composition, improvisation, and live expression. Throughout the course, students will develop and refine their own performance systems, integrating hardware controllers, synthesis devices, and interactive processes and demonstrating an understanding of both the technical and artistic dimensions of contemporary electronic performance.
