Picking up where MTI-505 MPTI Seminar: Past leaves off, this course focuses on the present and emerging challenges faced by music producers, artists, and technologists. The course provides a forum for the exploration of innovation and the integration of technology into modern music production. Students will engage in a thematic and practical exploration of research and innovation in music, arts, and technology. They will continue to develop artistic and technical communication skills and practice collaboration. In this course, students explore different strategies for building audience engagement in the current media landscape. Students analyze and learn how trends in musical tastes can be gleaned from the popularity charts published by major benchmarks. Students explore strategies for developing their own sound as a music producer. Students will learn about the different roles in modern music production, and practice negotiating the ownership and exploitation of the intellectual property that is developed as a result of these collaboration projects. Students present case studies of innovative production projects and techniques, and discuss with their colleagues. This course will also function as a forum to integrate the skills and techniques students are learning in their other courses, as well as helping students focus and define their culminating experience thesis projects.
