Max MSP 1: Fundamentals

Course Number
MTI-571
Description

As artistic and creative practices increasingly unfold in real time across audiovisual performances, interactive installations, and algorithmic media, artists must learn to design systems that respond, evolve, and interact rather than simply play back linear content. In this course, students will develop foundational skills in Max/MSP to create dynamic, real-time media systems. Through hands-on exploration of audio synthesis, sampling, control structures, and live video, students will learn to think in terms of behaviors, relationships, and emergent form. Emphasis is placed on building projects that are structurally clear, responsive, and personally expressive. By the end of the course, students will possess the technical fluency and conceptual grounding needed to confidently build original real-time audiovisual works and to continue into more advanced media performance contexts.
