Recording Artist Project

Course Number
MTI-533
Description

In this course, students will be guided through the process of recording a project in the studio, where the students will play the role of the artist opposite MPTI students playing the roles of producers, engineers, assistant producers and assistant engineers. This production team will work with the artist to complete their recording project. Students audition to enter the class by submitting a song and a brief description of their previous experience recording. They will have the chance to pick a producer, establish working agreements, and go through the recording process. In class, the students will receive feedback on their sessions, advice on how to resolve conflicts, and feedback on the recording/arrangement/production of the song. Students will prepare for rehearsals and collaborate on songwriting, arranging, and pre-production. They will participate in recording sessions that they book with their production team. Students will see their song go from idea to completion throughout the course of the semester.
