Music Therapy Internship 2
Internship 2 builds on the foundational skills developed in Internship 2, focusing on independent clinical practice and preparing students for board certification. This course represents the advanced phase of the 1,000-hour clinical training requirement mandated by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). Under continuous supervision from a credentialed music therapist, students will take on greater responsibility for designing, implementing, evaluating and documenting therapeutic interventions. This phase emphasizes independence and increased confidence in all stages of treatment planning, including client assessment, intervention implementation, and evaluation.
In addition to synthesizing their clinical competencies, students will complete a comprehensive final project that integrates theory and practice, tailored to the specific focus areas of their internship. The course also incorporates opportunities for students to reflect on their professional growth and readiness to transition into clinical practice through professional skills assessment and preparation for the board certification exam. Completion of this course solidifies the students' readiness for professional entry and positions them for success as board-certified music therapists.
