Description

This course provides students with a practical immersion into contemporary collaborative music production, engaging directly with student songwriters and producer-songwriters through industry-sponsored briefs. Students will participate in all stages of popular music creation, from initial track development to final mixing and mastering, guided by the specific requirements of A&R executives. The curriculum emphasizes the collaborative dynamics inherent in music production teams, fostering critical thinking regarding workflow, individual and collective responsibility, and the strategic alignment of creative output with industry demands. Through intensive projects and facilitated critiques, students will develop professional relationships and gain a sophisticated understanding of the processes shaping the modern music industry.

The class meets concurrently with SW-415 A&R Workshop for Songwriters and Topliners. Combined class meetings are held throughout the semester. Admission to the course is by application.
