Beat Making and Drum Programming

Description

This course is a hands-on study of the production of sampled/digital drums in modern commercial music. The emphasis is on techniques and strategies for programming the most effective drums in terms of feel and impact across a variety of genres. Topics include: the history of drum machines and drum samples in popular music, analysis of modern drum patterns and grooves across a variety of genres, comparison of popular sequencers and DAWs, sourcing and selecting sounds, basic beat-making and sequencing, and how to effectively process drum sounds. Particular focus will be paid to producers and artists whose songs have had an extreme impact on their particular genre specifically because of their drums.
