Record Company Operations
A fast-paced, interactive course that creates powerful artist-centric media companies that properly license and administrate the rights of their intellectual property worldwide. Students learn about the key revenue streams for record labels and related licenses, as well as the functions of their primary departments within these companies (e.g., artists and repertoire (A&R), promotion, marketing, distribution, product management, business affairs, and more). Using real-world examples and case studies, students have the opportunity to create a detailed recording budget, register the copyrights in the sound recordings, and administer the resulting royalty statements. There is also a focus on contractual relationships with artists and producers and international licensing of masters.
