People and Prejudice: The Science of Social Psychology
Course Number
LSOC-215
Description
Social psychology is the scientific study of how human behavior is influenced by group interactions, social norms, and cultural conventions. Through interactive activities and class discussions, we will explore how other people affect the way we think, feel, and act as individuals. Topics include explicit and implicit bias (prejudice, racism, and microaggressions), obedience (why we obey authority figures), conformity (why we change our behavior to fit in with social groups), and the development of self identity (motivation, relationships, and beliefs).
