Percussion for Music Therapy
This experiential course develops functional percussion skills and facilitation techniques essential for music therapy practice. Students will learn proper technique and maintenance for a range of percussion instruments, including hand drums, mallets, small percussion, body percussion, and found objects, while building rhythmic accuracy, steady tempo, and groove awareness. The course explores global percussion traditions, cultural contexts, and reflective practice to ensure the inclusive and ethical application of percussion experiences. By the end of this course, students will be able to design and facilitate percussion-based interventions that integrate musicianship, clinical goals, and group leadership to support health and well-being across diverse clinical and community-based settings.
