Description

In this course, students will develop an electronic music performance system using a variety of hardware instruments, exploring the possibilities of working without a laptop computer for live performances. Students will investigate the fundamentals of electronic performance using Elektron instruments as well as a variety of samplers, effect pedals, synthesizers, and step-sequencers from other manufacturers. Students will work on expanding their knowledge of effective live performance strategies using real-time control of all devices. Emphasis will be placed on developing music in real-time, creating a variety of musical forms and variations. In addition, we will explore the performance practices of historical and contemporary hardware-based artists to broaden our understanding of various approaches.
