Description

This class is an instrumental studies course focused on digital and digitized instruments that allow musicians to share digital signals with each other. Instruments used in this course can be any hardware or software instrument that can both SEND and RECEIVE MIDI and/or OSC Messages, including all MIDI-enabled instruments, MIDI controllers, SuperCollider, CSound, Max/MSP, PureData, SonicPi and, all DAWs. Students are expected to improvise each week and structure works for the group using both traditional notation methods (like lead sheets) and experimental techniques (like chance operations and graphic scores). Emphasis is placed on works which diffuse generative processes to multiple players. The class culminates in an evening-length live performance including visual elements.
