Flamenco Jazz Piano

Course Number
ILPN-207
Description

This course introduces students to the world of new flamenco through a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach using contemporary Spanish music, rhythms, and musical vocabulary rooted in flamenco palos (musical forms), fused with the language of jazz, and informed by the history of the flamenco art form. Students will learn how to use flamenco rhythms and harmonic language and apply them to their improvisational techniques. In addition to rhythm and palos, students explore beat accentuation, articulation and phrasing, lyrics, clapping, and repertoire, as well as the role of the instrument as an accompaniment for singers and dancers.
