Graduate Internship in Artistic Performance
Internship experiences through which graduate students can apply their performance skills, knowledge, and skill set developed within private instruction and ensemble experience in professional performance settings are vital components of a holistic artistic education. Outside performances allow students to gain valuable applied experience, develop critical interpersonal skills, and make connections within the industry. Industry leaders such as musical directors, conductors, artistic, and/or business leaders have the opportunity to provide impactful guidance and constructive evaluations of a student's talent and performance skills through the internship experience. In the internship course, students will draw on their innate abilities as improvisers, collaborators, creators, and listeners to better determine how they can use these skills to build a successful career in the arts and entertainment industry–and beyond.
Under the direct supervision of a professional staff member at the internship site, students will participate in a primarily performance-based opportunity for a minimum of 70 hours for a minimum of 7 weeks online with an in-person component. Students will have a clearly defined rehearsal, performance, or meeting schedule limited to one site, venue, or internship supervisor. All performance opportunities must be vetted and approved by the ICC to ensure the supervisor provides resources, equipment, and/or facilities that support learning and objectives/goals. Repertoire, instrumentation, roles, and/or performance and non-performance related responsibilities will be defined by the supervisor and agreed to by the student. Students will be active participants in the learning process, receiving regular feedback from the supervisor and internship course instructor. Prerequisites include 1) Students must have applied for and been awarded a specifically defined scholarship that comes with this internship commitment that Berklee provides; and 2) Throughout the semester they are enrolled, students most obtain at least a 3.0 GPA
