Sound Design for Electronic Music Styles

Course Number
EP-355
Description

Electronic music styles are often defined by the electronic sounds used to produce the music. This course will develop skills for patch design for specific genres of electronic music using Ableton Live. Students will reverse engineer existing sounds and work with subtractive, FM, wavetable, and granular synthesis, as well as sampling, and effects processing to create their own stylistically appropriate sound packs. The course will focus on creating complex instruments with intricate effects racks that provide macro control of multiple parameters for real time interaction and manipulation of timbre, each designed for specific music styles that can be applied to new emerging styles.
