Advanced Sound Design Techniques

Course Number
EP-322
Description

This course explores advanced methods of sound creation, analysis, and integration across modern production environments. Students will use both software and hardware systems to analyze, deconstruct, and reconstruct sounds through additive, subtractive, FM, and granular synthesis techniques. Emphasis is placed on sampling workflows, including the creation of multi-velocity keymaps from self-recorded source material, and on bridging modular synthesis with digital audio workstation (DAW) environments through control voltage integration.

Through hands-on projects, students will develop fluency with industry-standard tools, employ spectral imaging to inform sound design decisions, and apply creative strategies across diverse media contexts. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate the ability to design, evaluate, and organize professional-quality patches and sound libraries that reflect both technical precision and artistic intent.
