Introduction to Electronic Music Composition

Description

This course is designed to familiarize students with key terms and concepts in electronic music composition. Course topics apply to a wide breadth of aesthetics and genres represented by the term electronic music, from EDM to experimental electronic composition. Focused on four primary units (form, rhythm, tone, and space), the course exposes students to leading practitioners in contemporary electronic music through several creative and analytic assignments. Other topics include demystifying the fine line between production and composition, understanding the difference between working with electronic and acoustic instruments, and using DAW as a tool for composition. Special emphasis will be given to the development of a language for describing artistic works and the development of fluency in compositional discourse.
