Description

The Music of Dave Holland Ensemble studies and performs original arrangements of compositions from the famed master bassist. Under the guidance of the course instructor, the ensemble creates alternate approaches to these tunes through an exploration and rearranging of the music. This course emphasizes reinterpretation of Dave Holland compositions. Students gain experience in an ensemble setting through a performance of these original arrangements. Students in this course must have an advanced understanding of modes, harmony, chord scales, tonality, instrumental techniques, and rhythmic content to succeed in this challenging course. An advanced level of musicianship is expected from each class participant. The course is performance driven and students are expected to perform before an audience at the end of the semester.
