Course Number
ENGB-228
Description

This ensemble introduces students to the world of contemporary Spanish music, with a focus on flamenco, through a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach using Spanish music repertoire, rhythms, and musical vocabulary rooted in flamenco palos (musical forms), and informed by the history of the flamenco art form. Students will learn how to use flamenco rhythms and harmonic language and how to apply them to their improvisational techniques. In addition to rhythm and palos, students explore beat accentuation, articulation and phrasing, lyrics, clapping, as well as the role of the instrument as an accompaniment for singers and dancers.
