Contemporary Writing for Immersive Experiences

This course prepares the students to write music for situations where the placement of instruments in the 360 spatial area is fundamental to the music creation process. Students learn how to write and notate music for immersive audio experiences such as VR, installations, and multi-channel speaker systems. Students explore the entire process of creating immersive audio experiences and how their composition and producing skills fit within a larger team setting. Students research the current trends in immersive experiences, then conceive, compose, and produce original pieces in a variety of styles that leverage the unique possibilities of spatial localization of musical elements.
