Hip-Hop Aesthetics in Theater

Description

In this course, students will develop techniques and learn aesthetics of hip-hop lyricism and composition with a focus on a dramatic and musical theater context. Through a survey of heightened language traditions and an overview of hip-hop culture and historical context from which these styles, attitudes, and devices have emerged, students will experience weekly assignments centered on assessing their lived experience and music sensibilities to generate hip-hop material with an authentic voice.
