Course Number
CMSP-660
Description
Students in this course will explore and analyze a range of genres at the forefront of contemporary popular music, tracing their historical roots and identifying stylistic characteristics. Through hands-on projects, students will develop and refine genre-specific writing and production techniques by creating sound-alike and derivative works, as well as completing industry-integrated lab assignments. By applying these techniques, students will learn to incorporate signature sonic traits into their own compositions, cultivate innovative hybrid styles that transcend traditional genre boundaries, and build professional connections that can lead to production and songwriting opportunities beyond graduation.
