Essential Engineering for Creatives

Course Number
CMAT-555
Description

This is a studio-based engineering course designed to give songwriters and "in the box" music producers practical experience using large-format professional recording studios to record vocals, acoustic instruments, DI sources (including synthesizers and electric bass), amplified instruments (including electric guitar and Hammond organ), live drums, and percussion. Emphasis will be placed on understanding signal flow, patch bays, analogue consoles, headphone systems, and routing to and from the Digital Audio Workstation. Use of on-board and out-board compression, EQ, reverb, delay, and other effects will be covered for a variety of creative applications. Professional studio and session protocol, session flow, data management, and documentation will all be considered.
