Professor Janie Barnett, Americana and alt-jazz artist, presents her re-imagined album of Cole Porter’s iconic songs. The album, Under My Skin, was released in 2023, and re-released on vinyl in 2026 to great acclaim.
Barnett has taken these exotic, quixotic songs and set them in a hybrid Americana/alt-jazz landscape with the classic upright piano, fiddle, mandolin, dobro, accordion, and pedal steel.
Barnett’s seven-piece group goes moody, jazz-hot, barroom bawdy, with an occasional dose of bluegrass. Superb Berklee faculty, including Mark Shilansky on piano, Sara Caswell on violin, and Rich Hinman on pedal steel, along with Berklee voice faculty, join Barnett for this rich re-thinking of Porter’s classics.
