PODCAST: Mark Zaleski at Beantown Jazz
Saxophonist Mark Zaleski, an associate professor in Berklee's Harmony and Jazz Composition Department, said that it was during a "rare moment of peace of mind" that he wrote his song "Mark in the Park" in the Arnold Arboretum on a beautiful fall day six years ago. It will be during another exceptional fall day that he will perform the song, which will be on his early 2017 album Days, Months, Years, to thousands of people at the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival.
This year's festival starts the evening of September 23 with a ticketed performance by John Scofield at the Berklee Peformance Center and continues from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. the following day with a free outdoor concert on Columbus Street.
Find out more about Beantown, including the full list of performers, on the Beantown website, and be sure to catch the Mark Zaleski Band on the Berklee Stage at 2:45 p.m. In the meantime, get a taste for what's in store with the hard-driving swing and tight funk grooves of "Mark in the Park," featuring Zaleski on bass and alto sax, and his brother Glenn Zaleski on piano.
