Tim Jackson of the Monterey Jazz Festival to Receive George Wein Impresario Award
Berklee College of Music will present Tim Jackson, artistic director of the Monterey Jazz Festival, with the George Wein Impresario Award at the 59th edition of the festival, September 16-18. Jackson has been shaping the iconic annual event—the longest continuously presented jazz festival in the world—for 25 years.
Named after Wein, the legendary Newport Jazz Festival founder, the award recognizes individuals who bring music to life through their dedication to discovering, mentoring, presenting, and promoting creative musicians and their music. Previous recipients of the Wein Impresario Award are: Luis Alvarez, founder of the Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Festival; Carlo Pagnotta, founder of the Umbria Jazz Festival; and Fred Taylor, founder of the Jazz Workshop and Paul’s Mall in Boston.
Larry Simpson, Berklee senior vice president for academic affairs/provost, will present the award to Jackson on the festival’s Jimmy Lyons mainstage on Saturday, September 17, at 8:30 pm.
