Berklee Alumni Earn Two Tony Awards

Two Berklee alumni were honored with Tony Awards on June 12, 2016, for their outstanding contributions to theater. Alex Lacamoire '95 took home an award for orchestrating the megahit musical Hamilton, which was also awarded Best Musical. For his work on The Color Purple, composer/lyricist Stephen P. Bray '78 earned the award for Best Revival of a Musical.
This is the second Tony Award for both Lacamoire and Bray. Lacamoire won an award in 2008 for orchestrating In The Heights, and Bray won an award for his work as a composer/lyricist for The Color Purple in 2006. Earlier this year, Lacamoire was also awarded a Grammy Award for his contributions to Hamilton.
Berklee and Boston Conservatory alumni were nominated for seven awards in the categories of Best Musical, Best Revival of a Musical, Best Orchestrations, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical.
