The 1140 Venues: Berk Hall and Colvin Hall
Berklee's 1140 Boylston Street building is home to two of the college's busiest performance venues:
- Lawrence and Alma Berk Hall is located on the ground floor of the 1140 Boylston Street building. Named in honor of Berklee's founder, Lawrence Berk, and his wife, Alma, the hall can accommodate 100 audience members.
- Oliver Colvin Hall is located on the ground floor of the 1140 Boylston Street building. Named in honor of the late Oliver Colvin, a frequent Berklee concertgoer over a period of many years, the venue can accommodate 49 audience members.
Beginning in the early 1980s, the 1140 Boylston Street concert venues were the first on-campus venues where students could perform.
Many notable performers who attended Berklee performed in the 1140 venues during their time here as students. While perhaps not as well known to the public as the college's larger venues, Berk Hall and Colvin Hall are truly hallowed ground for Berklee.
Alumni who have performed in the 1140 venues include Gary Burton, Branford Marsalis, Susan Tedeschi, Paula Cole, Terri Lyne Carrington, John Mayer, Esperanza Spalding, Julian Lage, Steve Vai, and many more.
