Hidemi Akaiwa is a Japanese pianist/composer/micro-jammer. Her passion is to create a new artform fusing the tenets of Japanese Zen with the sounds of jazz and contemporary classical music with microtones. At the age of 30, Akaiwa shifted from a successful corporate career to jazz music. She attends Berklee College of Music as a full-scholarship recipient, participating in the Global Jazz Institute, the Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, the Planet MicroJam Institute, and the Berklee Interdisciplinary Arts Institute. She has had the privilege of studying with world-class musicians Danilo Pérez, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kris Davis, Billy Childs, David Fiuczynski, Ben Street, Adam Cruz, and many others.

For her senior recital as a jazz composition major, Akaiwa will present a portfolio developed under the direction of Professor Bob Pilkington. Borrowing his wisdom, her creativity and artistry are going to bloom. You cannot miss it!
