Lilla Sabbah (Virtual Concert)
The #BerkleeAnywhere Concert Series features Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee students performing virtually, from wherever they are in the world. We may be separated by distance, but music empowers us to unite. Wherever you are, we invite you to connect with us every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET on Berklee’s IGTV and Facebook pages.
About the Artist
Lilla Sabbah is a jazz-infused pop and soul singer-songwriter. She was born in Paris, France, and grew up in Tahiti, French Polynesia, before moving to Los Angeles, California, in 2008. She started singing as a freshman vocalist in her high school choir, but it wasn’t until her senior year that she started the voice lessons that would later introduce her to jazz. She started finding her own sound by exploring different genres and listening to more music, and her musical influences grew to include Stevie Wonder, Adele, Billie Eilish, Sara Gazarek, and Jazmine Sullivan. Chasing the thrill of developing her artistry, she was inspired to pursue music after high school. Instead of following the medical paths her family members took, she auditioned for Berklee and was accepted in 2018.
Sabbah is pursuing a dual major in jazz composition and contemporary writing and production, with a minor in the theory of jazz and popular song. Her knowledge and love of jazz harmony is creatively incorporated in her pop songwriting, arranging, and performing. In her first two years at Berklee, she has primarily performed as a vocalist in the DownBeat Award–winning groups Point of Departure and the Advanced Vocal Jazz Ensemble led by Ned Rosenblatt. She has performed with Dee Dee Bridgewater and at the Jazz Education Network's Annual Conference, and she has sung in many other performances with her fellow Berklee artists, landing gigs as a lead and background vocalist for multiple Berklee shows. She is currently based in Paris, France, recording her debut album.
