Be first to say you heard it first! The Identity Project: Vol. 1 is Berklee's first hip-hop compilation, to be released this fall. Join us for an evening of live music featuring songs from the project and a special performance by artist, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist International Show, one of the most sought-after producer/engineers in the industry. His production credits include Joyner Lucas, BIA, Future, and Fat Joe.

The Identity Project: Vol 1 is a sonic time capsule—a living, breathing recording of music created during one of the most challenging times of this generation. Embedded in the songs are the voices of talented producers and artists leaning into the language of music to guide them through unprecedented times: a global pandemic, the 2020 United States presidential election, and worldwide protests addressing racial inequality.

Drawing from two themes often expressed in hip-hop music, identity and origin story, as well as from the timeless topic of man vs. machine, The Identity Project: Vol 1 comprises 15 songs produced by Berklee students and alumni who have completed the Contemporary Writing & Production Department's hip-hop course, taught by Assistant Professor Shea Rose.

Curated by Rose with the support of music industry mentors International Show, Buffalo Lemur, The Daydream Sound, and Simone Scazzocchio, the forthcoming release will be available on streaming platforms in the fall of 2021.

The Identity Project: Vol 1 is made possible by Berklee's Office of Faculty Development and by the 2020 Newbury Comics Faculty Fellowship. Created through the generosity of Mike and Laura Dreese, the fellowship is an endowed grant that supports Berklee faculty members in designing creative and innovative approaches to fostering student engagement and learning.
